Are you using the right filtration solution?
May 01, 2020

It’s easy to underestimate the importance of choosing the best filtration solution to achieve the results you want for a particular wine. Selecting one that is not optimal can affect the taste, aroma, structure, and microbial stability of your final product. As the exclusive U.S. distributor of Eaton’s innovative filtration systems, ATPGroup offers our clients a variety of filtration solutions including Eaton’s BECO® range of filter sheets, pads, stacked disks, cartridge pre-filters, and membranes.

For plate and frame filters, BECO is available in either a standard or a mineral-free pad:

  • The BECO® Standard Range offers high chemical and mechanical resistance along with high clarification performance, resulting in long filter life and efficient particle retention.
  • The BECOPAD® Range is an evolution of the standard sheet, produced in 100% high-purity cellulose. These mineral-free filter pads also offer high chemical and mechanical resistance with low extractables and no “filter pad taste.” Their construction makes them 99% drip-free and offers 20% higher performance. The low-cationic nature of the BECOPADS makes them especially suited for protecting delicate aromatics and mouthfeel components. BECOPADS are also an economical and sustainable option, as they can be back-flushed repeatedly, can be cleaned between batches, and are 100% biodegradable and compostable. (Be sure to check with your waste handler for specific guidance in your area.)

The newest additions to ATPGroup’s filtration solutions are Eaton’s BECODISC® Stacked Disk Cartridges, BECO PROTECT® FS Pre-Filter Cartridges, and BECO® MEMBRAN PS Absolute Membrane Cartridges:

  • BECODISC® Stacked Disc Cartridges use the same mineral-free, 100% cellulose matrix as BECOPADs, offering greater integrity and wet strength than competitive units. The high-purity celluloses form a unique structure, which even for microbial removal does not require mineral components. Compared to other manufacturers’ sheets, BECODISC media offers up to 20% greater throughput, no drip loss, and the lowest color removal thanks to the low-cationic nature of the filters.
  • BECO PROTECT® FS Pre-Filter Cartridges and BECO® MEMBRAN Absolute Membrane Cartridges offer high performance at a competitive price. They are produced using the highest quality materials, supporting substantial surface area and making them robust and tolerant to hot water and steam sterilization. The BECO MEMBRAN is produced using polyethersulfone (PES) material, providing high microbial retention in a system which can be integrity tested. High cleanability, compatibility with pH > 12, and low protein binding supports exceptional throughputs. Used together, the BECO PROTECT FS pre-filters the wine, ensuring superior protection and maximized throughput for the BECO MEMBRAN.
