Dan Berger’s International Wine Competition (DBIWC), now in its 42st year.
Dear Wine Company:
Founded in 1982 by one of the nation’s most respected wine journalists, Dan Berger, the name and venue were changed in 2016. For decades it was called the Riverside International and was held in May.
The competition is coordinated by Debra del Fiorentino at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds.
Judges include some of the nation’s top wine makers, wine writers, and sommeliers. The event uses rules based on research done in the 1970s by Prof. Maynard Amerine at UC Davis. Judges evaluate with an eye to regional identity. The use of appellations benefits wineries and consumers.
A salient quote from the judges is provided for all gold medal winners. Our medals include triple-gold, gold, silver, and bronze. There also are special trophies for the best four Rieslings as well as other trophies.
The DBIWC uses a state-of-the-art online database that is infinitely sortable and is accessible to wineries and consumers.
DBIWC also offers free bottle stickers, free table tents, free shelf talkers, a free link to winery websites, and free medal certificates along with ribboned medallions, which will be mailed to winners.
For questions, call Dan at 707-479-9463
